Philosophy of Care
Kaitlyn believes psychiatric mental health treatment to be both the science and the art of providing compassionate, high quality, evidence-based care. She feels patients should always be approached with unconditional positive regard in each encounter and be given every opportunity available to attain their highest level of holistic wellness. Kaitlyn strives to be both an advocate for and partner with the clients, who should be recognized as the experts of their own health and wellbeing. Kaitlyn views medication as a valuable and useful tool used best in conjunction with therapy, skill building, and education. Medication prescription and management with Kaitlyn will not be simply treating symptoms with an onslaught of medications, but really treating the whole person with all of the tools, skills, and knowledge her education and license provides.
Kaitlyn loves working with adolescents, young adults, and working professionals. Her primary areas of interest and expertise include anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, life transitions, stress management, school issues, stress, and self esteem issues. She provides primarily psychiatric evaluations and medication management services with brief, solution-focused therapy as part of every session. However, she is well-versed in not only psychotropic medications, but also in natural approaches, lifestyle factors, study skills, mindfulness techniques, coping strategies, and identification of potential underlying medical concerns.
Kaitlyn has experience treating children, adolescents, and adults in both private practice and community mental health settings. When not working in her private practice, she works as the psychiatric nurse practitioner at a university student health center with undergraduate and graduate students. She has previously worked in a private, outpatient ADHD specialty clinic. Kaitlyn has also worked in a community mental health outpatient setting treating children, adolescents, and young adults with mental health conditions of wide-ranging severity and complexity.
Kaitlyn graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University. She then graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a Master of Nursing degree with a focus on psychiatry and mental health. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. Kaitlyn is nationally accredited in psychiatric mental health across the lifespan. She has also received special training and certification in Motivational Interviewing via the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). She is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
